My girls love the Chex muddy buddies we make every year for the holidays, so when I found this recipe I knew we'd have to try it. It was every bit as good as I imagined, and the kids loved it! Hope you enjoy!
Valentine's Day Chex Mix
You will need: 9 cups Rice Chex® cereal 1 cup white baking chips 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/4 cup butter or margarine 3/4 cup powdered sugar 1/2 cup M&M's candies, in Valentine colors 1/4 cup red or pink candy sprinkles
1. Place the cereal into a large bowl. In a small microwavable bowl, microwave the baking chips, peanut butter, and butter uncovered on High 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted and smooth. Pour peanut butter mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated.
2. Place 1/2 of the cereal mixture into a gallon-size ziploc bag. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag and shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper or foil to cool, about 15 minutes, making sure to cool completely!
3. Meanwhile, stir candies and sprinkles into the remaining cereal mixture. Spread on waxed paper or foil to cool, about 15 minutes, again making sure to cool completely.
4. In a serving bowl, mix both cereal mixtures together. Store in airtight container.
Try this quick and easy craft with your kids for Valentine's Day! It's a wonderful alternative to store-bought cards, and is super cute, too!
Valentine Flowers
Most of the supplies you'll need for this craft are all probably in your house already, making this a fun and frugal choice for your child's class Valentine's Day card exchange. All you need is pink (or purple or red) and green construction paper for your "flower" and "leaves", flat lollipops, glue or glue sticks, and a marker to write your note.
First, use your pink (or purple or red) construction paper to cut out hearts, a bit wider than your lollipops. Then, write your valentine message on one side of the heart. Next, fold a piece of green construction paper and cut out leaves along the fold so each pair of leaves is connected in the middle.
Next, flip your heart over to the blank side, and use your gluestick to glue the lollipop to the center of the heart. Then to finish up, put glue on the leaves and press the two parts of each leaf together around the lollipop sticks. Here is what the finished product should look like:
February is Cultural Awareness Month!
February is Cultural Awareness Month at The Mommies Network, and we're thinking globally! Share a love for foreign language and different cultures with your child in our Multicultural Mommies forum on our National Chapter. Each week, we'll feature several languages and cultural tidbits. You may also participate and strengthen your language lingo in a special webinar. Additionally, our sponsor will provide information on how you can continue your language-learning experience after the month is over.
According to Associated Content, brain research shows that children are at an optimal age for language learning. Although language study is effective at any age, some studies suggest that the human brain is more open to learning a foreign language from birth to preadolescence. Fortunately, researchers have not found an age in which the language window closes completely, especially in the areas of grammar and vocabulary.
Take advantage of this opportunity to think globally, and join us as we learn about foreign languages and different ways of life during Cultural Awareness Month at TMN!
Ladies, as it's been awhile since we've done a Mom of the Month, and it's been a long while since the KM staff participated, in order to help you get to know us better, I think we'll start with staff while we get things organized on our end! I'm starting with myself, not because I'm conceited, lol, but because I just thought of this today, and it's pretty quick for me to answer for myself:)
Get to know our Chapter Manager...
KRISTA!!!
What's your name? Krista Scott
How did you come up with your username: Its the first three letters of my first and last name, along with the anniversary date of my ex and I and his first initial. It was my old email address so it was easy to remember:)
Can you describe yourself personality wise? I'm very detailed and try to be organized, even to the point of trying to organize others even when they don't want to be (which I'm working on, lol), I try to be friendly and will try to find something in common with everyone I meet, and because of the fact that I'm usually a very quiet person unless I'm "working" a KM thing I tend to get nervous when meeting someone new until I get to know then, but then will open up pretty well.
Where are you from? Born and raised in Knoxville, with most of my life spent in South Knox just up the road from Ijams Nature Center.
Tell us a little bit about your family: I am a single mom of two girls, both of which are homeschooled family. Raine, 16, is a very responsible and mature young lady who is on our youth praise dance team at church, another youth praise dance team outside of church, helps me out at home, holds down a full-time job, and helps me at our bigger KM events. Lakin, 8, is my ballerina/fashion designer/rock star:) She is usually pretty shy and normally well-behaved, although she has her moments, but she's a very sweet kid. She has SPD and ODD, which makes for some fun times at our house to be sure. We also have four cats and a chihuahua.
How did you find KM? I saw the ad on Craigslist not long after the group was started and decided to join.
What is your favorite forum in KM and why? Events and Happenings! I was Events Manager before becoming Chapter Manager, and although I love my "job" now, my heart is still with events!
What do you like best about KM? The moms. Most of the mommies I've met on KM are super friendly, and it's nice having other moms to talk to. I've made several good friends in my time at KM, and I look forward to meeting new friends in the future.
Can you share your favorite memory of your child(ren) I don't have a favorite. With my girls being homeschooled, I spend most of my time with them, which means we've made many memories together and it's hard to pick a favorite.
Are you a part of a committee or leadership on KM and if yes, what do you like about it? I am the Chapter Manager of KM. I always said I didn't really want to have that job, and that I was happy in my position in events, but I'm glad I was given this opportunity. I love my job:) I love getting to know the members, working with the staff, planning ways to make our site even greater than it is now, and although it can be majorly stressful at times, I can't imagine giving it up.
If you could tell everyone on KM one random thing about you what would it be? I homeschool my kids, as well as watch other kids in my home, volunteer with the kids at church, and spend hours on KM most days working behind the scenes, but as much as I would enjoy a minute to myself occasionally which never happens, I wouldn't change a thing:)
